Common questions

Before you reach out

A few things people usually want to know before their first session.

What happens in the first session?

We'll spend time getting to know each other — what brought you in, what you're hoping for, and any questions you have about how I work. There's no pressure to have it all figured out; we just start where you are.

Do you accept insurance?

No — this is a self-pay (private pay) practice and I don't bill insurance directly. On request I can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and is determined by your plan.

What are your session fees?

Individual sessions are 55 minutes at $100 for private self-pay clients. I also hold a select number of sliding-scale and reduced-fee slots — please reach out for more information.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. What you share in session is protected by confidentiality law, with a few narrow legal exceptions (like immediate safety concerns) that I'll walk you through at our first session.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. I offer both in-person and secure telehealth sessions. Telehealth is available to clients located anywhere in Texas, while in-person sessions are available at the practice location.

Will we talk about my childhood and past experiences?

Yes. I believe deep, lasting change often requires understanding where our patterns come from, not just managing the symptoms they create. When appropriate, we'll explore childhood experiences, attachment wounds, family dynamics, relationships, and patterns that may still be affecting you today. I don't want therapy to stay on the surface. We'll work toward understanding the roots of what you're experiencing and creating meaningful change in the present. We'll also move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, because deep work doesn't mean being pushed before you're ready.

Do you work with complex PTSD (CPTSD) and complex trauma?

Yes. I work with clients who have experienced complex or ongoing trauma and may be dealing with patterns such as emotional overwhelm, difficulty feeling safe, hypervigilance, shutdown, relationship difficulties, shame, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Our work can focus on understanding how those experiences have shaped your nervous system, relationships, sense of self, and ways of coping. I take a trauma-informed, person-centered approach and we move at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Can therapy help me stop repeating the same patterns?

That's a big part of this work. We can explore where familiar patterns came from, notice how they show up today, and practice healthier ways of responding so your past doesn't keep writing the same story.

What kinds of things can we work on?

Anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, complex trauma, PTSD, developmental trauma, perfectionism, self-criticism, difficult family dynamics and generational patterns, relationship challenges, communication, attachment, people-pleasing, boundaries, emotional regulation, self-worth, life transitions, and patterns that keep showing up in relationships.

How do I know we're a good fit?

That's exactly what the free 15-minute consultation is for. We'll talk briefly about what you're looking for, and you can ask me anything before committing to a first session. And fit doesn't stop there — if at any point we determine that I'm not the right therapist for your needs, we'll talk about it openly and I'll help connect you with appropriate referrals or other resources.
